The PRS
Yearbook of Medical and Life Sciences Information Providers 2002- a comprehensive guide to companies and
organisations publishing for medical and health professionals, researchers and libraries.
Doctors and medical librarians today are under pressure to handle more and more information in a very fast-paced environment. Just as medical information is ever changing, transformed frequently by new research and clinical experience, the publishing and information companies that support it are constantly changing, driven by changes in ownership, technology and information usage. Medical and health information is a $4 billion industry characterised by a handful of key players and a large number of private companies. This new publication from Paradigm RedShift has tracked down over 350 organisations providing information for the medical practitioner and medical library. Many of these organisations are providing free information. The PRS Yearbook is published as a bundled print and CD-ROM package. Both provide the same data, on key information products and publications, details of directors and financial status for public companies and list street, website and email addresses plus much more. Head Software International has carefully designed the CD-ROM so that the screen layout reflects the design of the printed product. In addition to the flexible searching and display options expected on a professional CD-ROM, the electronic version also includes hot links to all available email addresses and URLs making it a unique and invaluable tool for effortlessly gathering additional information in this field. Jack Lee, Managing Director of Paradigm RedShift Limited, said: "Internet and electronic products are rapidly changing the medical information landscape. With the advent of mobile technology, medical staff now expect to access critical information for patient care in almost any location. This yearbook covers both the established medical publishers and the new electronic players." Mike Hyman, Managing Director of Head Software International, commented:"We are pleased that we have been able to meet the challenge and produce the CD-ROM version of the PRS Yearbook in a remarkably short timescale. We agreed to proceed with the Paradigm RedShift Yearbook CD-ROM version in mid September. We were able to deliver the first fully functional prototype to them in mid October and the final version was ready for shipment to PRSs network of distributors around the world by late November."
