Copyright infringement – a question of respect
Times Online, September 18

The proper role and use of copyright is one of the great, unresolved arguments of the internet era. Many net activists believe that copyright laws in the US have become an impediment to creativity and innovation in a world of file-sharing and remixing, and that the entertainment industry in particular is hurting both itself and its customers by trying to keep tight control over its products.

Google faces wrath of the ... Belgians
The Sunday Times, September 24

Last week a dozen Belgian papers were cut off by Google after a court ordered the web giant to stop reproducing their content or face a fine of €1m (£673,000) a day. The decision strikes at the heart of Google’s business model - accessing and indexing content found on all kinds of websites, including those of news organisations, without paying for it.

Publishers take on Google
The Sunday Times, September 24

NEWSPAPER and book publishers have launched a global initiative to regain the control many feel they have surrendered to internet search engines such as Google and Yahoo. Many publishers are concerned that the search engines provide unfettered and unpaid access to newspaper articles and other published material.
