Announces Closing of Forbes Global and the Debut of Forbes Asia

Forbes announced that Forbes Global, its international edition, will publish its last
issue July 25, 2005. The North American edition of Forbes will be made available to Forbes
Global subscribers. On September 5, 2005, Forbes will debut a new edition, which will be
named Forbes Asia. The magazine will expand and enhance the coverage of this very robust
region. Forbes Asia will be published in English on a bi-weekly schedule and will have an
initial circulation of 80,000. The new publication will be available across the
Asia/Pacific region.

and Blackwell Announce Transfer of Publishing Assets

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), a leading international publisher in medicine,
nursing, and allied health, and Blackwell Publishing, the world's leading society
publisher, announced an asset transfer that will allow each publisher to enhance their
product offerings and to meet the needs of core customers.
LWW has acquired Blackwell's eight medical student review book series, with 123 back
list and 47 front list titles. Brands that are part of the transaction include the
Blueprints series, the Underground Clinical Vignettes series and Boards and Wards.
Software patent
bill thrown out

European politicians have thrown out a controversial bill that could have led to
software being patented. The European Parliament voted 648 to 14 to reject the Computer
Implemented Inventions Directive.

Microsoft sues

Microsoft has sued the search giant and a former Microsoft executive who has
been tapped by Google to run its China operations. The suit was filed in a
Washington state court against Google and Kai-Fu Lee, who was the corporate vice president

gives green light to child database

The government is going ahead with plans for a central index of all children, despite
concerns from MPs. The Information Sharing Index scheme was devised following the public
inquiry into the Victoria Climbié case and was included in the Childrens Bill
passed in November. The scheme will create 150 regional registers, with a 151st system to
co-ordinate them.

finalised the acquisition of MC Strategies, Inc., a US-based firm that specialises in
developing and delivering online training content for the healthcare industry.
The acquisition of MC Strategies, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, enables Elsevier to
expand its offerings in online continuing education and training for the healthcare
market.
