Jürgen Boos appointed Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair

Jürgen Boos (43) is to take over as Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair with effect from 1 April 2005. This was announced on by the Supervisory Board of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (BBG), the parent company of the Ausstellungs- und Messe GmbH (AuM) that organises the fair.

United Business Media Set to Acquire MediMedia Trade Press in France

United Business Media plc “UBM,”  announced that it has made an offer, subject to certain conditions, to Santemedia Group Holding “Santemedia” to acquire MediMedia’s trade press and services activities in France. Those activities which are managed by Gérard Kouchner, include the leading titles on the GP press Quotidien du Medecin and Le Generaliste and on pharmacists press Quotidien du Pharmacien, as well as the prescription pads, trade shows and customised communications activities.


CNNIC published the "15th Statistical Survey Report on the Internet Development in China"
CNNIC, January 19

Some 94 million Chinese on the mainland became Internet users by the end of last year, unveiled from the "15th Statistical Survey Report on the Internet Development in China" by China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) representing a year-on-year growth of 18.2%.


The American Chemical Society and Thomson Announce Linking Agreement

The Thomson Corporation announced its Scientific business has entered into an agreement with the American Chemical Society (ACS) Publications Division to provide Web of Science® subscribers, who also subscribe to American Chemical Society Publications, with links to the full-text of articles from ACS Web editions.

Sweet & Maxwell - the legal publishers - is being investigated by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) for a suspected fraud of '£1 million or more'.


McGraw-Hill Education Makes Equity Investment in PRCEDU

McGraw-Hill Education, a provider of online and print educational solutions, announced an equity investment in PRCEDU Corporation, the leading online education service provider for Chinese universities and academic institutions. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.


The Land Registry launches its first public internet service www.landregisteronline.gov.uk, January 31

Land Register Online, the Land Registry’s first internet service for the general public, providing easy access to details of more than 19 million properties in England and Wales, was launched on 31 January 2005. Land Registry’s extensive records include the title register (showing legal ownership, rights or interests and mortgages) and a title plan (showing the land owned) for each registered property. On most registrations made since April 2000 the price paid is also recorded.
