Oxfam expands book chain as bookworms scent

Oxfam is planning to expand its specialist bookshops chain because of
unprecedented demand for second-hand books.
The charity - which is Europe's biggest second-hand book retailer - has 60
dedicated bookstores in the UK. It will now open between 10 and 15 more next year.

ValueClick buys marketer

$58 million in cash, another sign of consolidation in the online marketing business. Under
the deal, ValueClick will fold Commission Junction's business and customers, including its

Overture and Microsoft Extend Search

and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO), today announced it has
extended its search distribution relationship with Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) in the
United States and United Kingdom through June 2005.
Under the terms of the new deal, the companies have entered into a paid placement
search agreement to provide Overture search results to U.S. and UK users of MSN Search.
The agreement provides for the companies to potentially expand into additional countries.

online journal seeks revolution in science publishing

A new online journal aims to radically alter scientific publishing, breaking the
stranglehold that expensive private journals have on the details of most discoveries by
making vital research freely available on the Internet.
The San Francisco-based Public Library of Science, though backed by leading academics
including Nobel laureates, was dismissed as idealistic and unfeasible by many in the
scientific and publishing communities when announced over the summer.

revenue and profit was advertising, not fees; revenue was $356.8 million, up 43 percent.
