Smoking to be banned in Irish pubs
BBC News 30th January

The Irish Government is to ban smoking in all pubs and restaurants. It comes as a report by the Office of Tobacco Control and the Health and Safety Authority highlighted the ill-effects of passive smoking.

Reuters shares drop

Shares in Reuters, the news and information group fell by more than 5 per cent after analysts cut their 2003 profit forecast. Reuters is expected to cut costs and reduce jobs.

Upgrade for NHS electronic network

Over £45 million will be spent to upgrade NHSnet - which is used to connect thousands of health service organisations. Improvements include letting GPs book appointments for patients online.

Which? is to stop Web Trader Service

The Consumers Association is to close down its Which? Web Trader service, which monitors the standards of more than 2,300 internet retailers.

Elsevier Science to acquire Holtzbrinck's STM business

Elsevier Science has announced plans to expand its European presence through the proposed acquisition of Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck's German STM business. The two companies have agreed the acquisition in principle, subject to the approval of the national competition authorities in Germany and Austria
